Looking ahead: DevOps
We looked back at 2013 and how well the UK adopted cloud during the last twelve months in my last blog. (C-, must try harder). Now it’s time to look forward into 2014 and talk about what we think the big topics of the next year will be.
First up, it’s DevOps. If you’re no familiar with the term, here’s a quick video to explain it to you in plain English:
DevOps as a concept is not something that can be summed up in one precise definition. It’s about developers and operations teams working together to improve collaboration and productivity, chiefly by automating workflows and deployment and scaling of infrastructure; continuously measuring application performance. A DevOps method enables companies to react and innovate faster, quite often the key to commercial success in today’s incredibly fast-paced world. But while it’s easy to talk about, it’s not so easy to actually do. DevOps requires changes to teams and culture, new tools, new skills and even new systems with greater reliability and scalability.
At the moment, not enough people in the market who understand how to do a DevOps process, and we’re trying to change that. We’ll be launching the Rackspace DevOps Automation Service soon in the UK and EMEA region (it’s available now in the US if you want a sneak peak: http://www.rackspace.com/devops/) It’s a managed support service that does the hard work for you, delivers the expertise you need, coupled with our legendary Fanatical Support. We know it works, because we adopted a Devops philosophy ourselves.
Be the first to know when the Rackspace DevOps Automation Service is available in the UK. Follow @rackspaceUK on Twitter and we’ll let you know once it’s available.
Next blog, I’ll talk about the other Big Thing of 2014: Big Data.
