The only way is Green
During these troubling economic times it is easy for businesses to put their environmental responsibility on the
backburner and instead concentrate on securing profit margins. However, as the government introduces more environmental legislation, the pressure on businesses to go green keeps increasing.
However, adopting a green agenda also offers companies an opportunity to take a more sustainable approach to business and even boost revenue. A study into the perceptions of Rackspace customers towards green issues showed that 52 per cent of respondents would pay five to 10 per cent more to work with a green vendor. The survey also showed that 30 per cent of customers believed that green vendors will be a central part of their business strategy in five years time. So there are not only benefits in the short term for companies who boost their environmental credentials but it may help them to prosper in the long term. Essentially, if sustainability issues aren’t already on the corporate agenda, now is the time to act.
Here at Rackspace we are committed to going green, for example our Slough data centre uses the most energy efficient technology. We partnered with the International Tree Foundation (ITF) to plant a tree for every one of our customers, mitigating the carbon generated through hosted servers, and in our office we use only paper from sustainable sources and recycle all aluminium cans, paper, cardboard and plastic. We are devoted to contributing to the overall environmental solution as we firmly believe that green activity makes business and environmental sense for everyone.
